Debbie has more than 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry where she has devoted her career to compliance leadership and advisory roles.  For sixteen years Debbie served as Associate Vice President of Compliance for the University of Louisville School of Medicine where 

she was responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing 

U of L’s first Compliance Program.

 

Debbie is a founding member of the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), is past President of HCCA, and currently serves as a member of the HCCA Board of Directors, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE).  Debbie also serves on the Board of Directors of the Compliance Certification Board (CCB) where she has been instrumental in developing the leading certification programs for compliance professionals in the healthcare, general business, and international compliance communities.  She currently serves as Dean of the HCCA and SCCE domestic and international Compliance Academies – intensive training programs for compliance professionals.

 

In recent years Debbie has been a leading advisor to organizational compliance programs in healthcare and non-healthcare environments. She has extensive experience serving as interim compliance officer, evaluating and recommending improvements to compliance programs, serving as board expert and advisor, leading audit and independent review organization teams, and consulting on the development, implementation, operation, and improvement of compliance programs.   Debbie has written and spoken extensively on topics related to the operation of effective compliance programs.  She is co-author of Compliance 101, an introduction to effective compliance programs that is used by compliance professionals worldwide.  She also co-authored In Search of Healthcare Compliance in 2001.

Representative Matters:
 

  • Served as interim compliance officer for a leading 1,500 provider multi-specialty practice. 

 

  • Conducted compliance program effectiveness assessments to identify both areas of best practice and program elements that need improvement.  Developed work plans to address recommendations.

 

  • Advised boards of directors on compliance program effectiveness.  Served as board expert pursuant to the requirements of CIAs. 

 

  • Led audit teams in review of billing and coding practices to evaluate coding accuracy, analyze results, prepare audit reports, and conduct follow-up education.
