Janis has more than 25 years’ experience leading compliance, risk management and quality programs for complex healthcare organizations.  She has significant experience in the implementation and evaluation of compliance programs and privacy compliance programs; conducting internal investigations and working with management to develop corrective action plans; educating and training leaders, managers and clinicians on core compliance requirements and obligations; and reviewing operational workflows to integrate compliance requirements into the regular practice of clinicians and managers.

In addition to her work with Arete, Janis is Adjunct Faculty and Senior Fellow in Residence at the Center for Regulatory Compliance Studies at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where she teaches online and on campus Health Law and Regulatory Compliance Program courses.  She served for 15 years as the Corporate Compliance Officer and Privacy Officer for Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, responsible for the offices of Regulatory Compliance, Auditing, and Monitoring, HIPAA Privacy/Security, Research Compliance and Conflicts of Interest.

Janis entered health care as a registered nurse working in clinical and management roles. She has held leadership positions in risk management and quality improvement at multi-hospital systems. She served for eight years on the faculty of the HCCA Compliance Academies and as a member of the exam writing committee for the Compliance Certification Board.
